Our Executive Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) programme offers a milestone in personal development, combines academic knowledge and professional expertise, enabling you to initiate organisational change. Each credit of study is equivalent to 10 learning hours. For example, 30 credits reflect 300 hours of learning.

Entry requirements

The Aston Online DBA is designed for senior professionals ready to lead at the highest level. Admission is selective, signalling your academic capability, leadership experience, and global communication skills, all hallmarks of top-tier executives. Applications meeting the entry requirements are reviewed by the DBA Programme Director. Shortlisted candidates are invited to interview via Microsoft Teams to discuss their proposed research and the programme’s expectations with the Director and faculty.

Standard entry requirements

  • A minimum of five years in senior management 

This requirement ensures candidates bring the real-world experience needed to contribute meaningfully to research and practice. 

  • A UK master’s degree or international equivalent in business, management, or a related field 

This ensures all candidates begin with the advanced theoretical knowledge expected of doctoral-level professionals. 

Documents required: 

  • Official academic transcript(s) and certificate(s) evidencing an MBA, MSc, or MA degree in business or management 

  • Two references, one of which must be from your current employer 

  • A detailed curriculum vitae (CV) 

  • Your ID 

  • A research proposal 

  • A personal statement detailing your motivations for undertaking this programme and how your background, qualifications, and experiences will help you meet its demands.

English language requirements

If English isn't your first language, in addition to the standard entry requirements, you must provide evidence that your master's degree was taught entirely in English.  Alternatively, you can provide evidence that you have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 overall or an equivalent English language qualification recognised by Aston University, taken within the last two years.  We can also provide an internationally accredited online English Language Assessment, which can be discussed with your Student Recruitment Advisor during the application process.
