Rhys Bell: Hello everyone, and welcome. Thank you for joining today's webinar introducing Aston University's Online Bachelor of Laws (LLB) with Honours.
My name is Rhys Bell, and I'm a Student Recruitment Advisor at Aston University Online. During today's session, I'll guide you through the programme, explain what you can expect as an online student, outline the application process, and answer your questions during the Q&A session at the end.

About the Online Law LLB
Rhys Bell: Our Online Law LLB is designed to prepare students for the modern legal profession by combining legal expertise with commercial awareness and business-focused learning.
The programme develops knowledge in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital transformation, leadership, and Aston's Power Skills, helping students prepare for the evolving legal landscape.
Aston University is ranked seventh in the UK for Student Experience in Law by The Times and Sunday Times University Guide 2026. The programme also supports preparation for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) while developing practical legal knowledge relevant to corporate and commercial law careers.
Entry requirements
Rhys Bell: Our standard entry requirements are three B grades at A Level or an equivalent qualification.
International applicants are assessed individually, and we'll be happy to review your qualifications to determine their UK equivalency. Applicants must also meet our English language requirements, and our Student Recruitment Team can guide you through this process.
We also consider applicants who may not have traditional qualifications but can demonstrate relevant professional experience within the legal sector or a related field. As every case is different, we encourage prospective students to contact our team to discuss their individual circumstances.
Programme structure and key skills
Rhys Bell: Throughout the programme, you'll develop knowledge across core legal subjects while building practical and commercial skills valued by employers.
Key areas include legal foundations, practical legal skills, innovation and technology in law, commercial awareness, and legal project management.
The programme lasts 48 months and is studied part-time over four years. The total tuition fee is £22,005.
The degree consists of 360 credits delivered across three academic stages.
Stage One introduces core legal subjects including Criminal Law, Tort Law, Legal Systems and Skills, Contract Law, Property Law, and Public Law.
Stage Two builds on these foundations with further study in business, technology, and commercial law.
Stage Three explores advanced topics including European Union Law, Intellectual Property, Internet Law, Fraud, Bribery and Corruption, alongside other specialist modules.
Career opportunities
Rhys Bell: Graduates from the programme pursue careers across a wide range of legal and commercial sectors.
Potential career paths include trainee solicitor, trainee tax consultant, litigation consultant, corporate client adviser, negotiations specialist, case handler, and immigration paralegal, among many others.
The application process
Rhys Bell: Applying is a straightforward process, and our Admissions Team will support you throughout each stage.
The first step is to complete the online application form through the Aston University Online website.
Once you've submitted your enquiry, a member of the Student Recruitment Team will contact you to discuss your career goals, answer your questions, and explain the programme in more detail.
You'll then be asked to submit your supporting documents, which typically include a personal statement, proof of identification, academic qualifications, and a candidate details form. Depending on your circumstances, we may also request additional documents such as a CV, professional reference, or English language qualification.
After all documentation has been received, the Admissions Team will review your application. Decisions are typically made within two to three working days, although processing times may be slightly longer during busy admissions periods.
Students who are self-funding will be asked to pay a deposit, while applicants using Student Finance will not be required to do so.
Before the programme begins, you'll complete a pre-onboarding process with the Student Success Team, attend induction activities, and prepare for the start of your studies.

Rhys Bell: Throughout the application process, we'll provide guidance on preparing your documents.
If you're submitting a CV, tailor it to highlight relevant achievements, qualifications, and experience.
Your personal statement should clearly explain your motivation for studying law, your career aspirations, and why Aston University's programme is the right fit for you.
We'll also help you gather the appropriate academic transcripts and advise international applicants on translation and English language requirements where necessary.
Student support
Rhys Bell: Once enrolled, you'll receive ongoing support throughout your studies.
Our Student Success Team will guide you through onboarding, help you settle into the programme, and remain available whenever you need support.
You'll also have access to the Student Hub, academic resources, careers support, and Aston's alumni network. Our award-winning Careers Team continues supporting graduates even after they complete the programme.
Studying online

By logging in regularly, you'll be able to access learning materials, receive updates from your tutors, manage your assignments, and connect with fellow students.

Most assessments are expected to be based on coursework or practical projects. At the beginning of each module, the relevant learning materials will be uploaded to the Digital Campus and will remain available throughout the module.
Students will receive guidance from their module tutors, who can support them with the academic content and assessments. The Student Success Team can also provide additional resources and guidance to help students adjust to online learning and academic writing after time away from education.
What happens during induction week?
Induction week usually takes place during the week before the programme begins. Students will be introduced to the Digital Campus and shown how to access learning materials, contact tutors and university staff, and use the different features of the online platform.
There may also be live online presentations and introductory activities designed to help students become familiar with the platform and prepare for their studies.
What funding options are available?
Students based in the UK who meet the relevant eligibility criteria may be able to apply for funding through Student Finance England or another applicable student finance body.
Students who are not eligible for student finance can self-fund the programme and pay their tuition fees through monthly instalments. Aston Online does not currently offer a fully funded scholarship for this programme.
Are scholarships available?
Fully funded scholarships are not currently available for the Online Law LLB. However, self-funding applicants may be considered for a merit-based tuition fee reduction, which may range from approximately 5% to 10%.
These awards are considered individually and may take into account academic performance, professional experience, and other achievements. A scholarship cannot be confirmed until a complete application has been assessed.
Can online students attend Law Society activities and university events?
Aston Online students are recognised as full Aston University students. This means they can join the Law Society and participate in activities organised by the Students' Union or events that are open to the wider student community.
UK-based students can also request a student ID card and use facilities such as the library and Students' Union. However, online students are not normally able to attend teaching sessions that form part of separate on-campus programmes.
Do international students need to provide evidence of English language ability?
International applicants may need to provide an accepted English language qualification, depending on their nationality, previous education, and individual circumstances.
Aston University accepts several forms of English language evidence. Applicants should speak with a Student Recruitment Advisor so their circumstances and available options can be reviewed individually.
Can you explain how the programme stages are structured?
The programme lasts four years and is worth 360 credits in total. It is divided into three stages, which correspond to Levels 4, 5, and 6 of the Regulated Qualifications Framework.
Each stage is worth 120 credits and takes approximately one year and four months to complete. Every module is worth 30 credits, meaning students complete four modules within each stage.
Modules are studied one at a time rather than simultaneously. Each module is expected to last approximately 16 weeks.
How is the programme assessed?
The programme is expected to be assessed primarily through coursework and practical projects. Students will normally complete assessments throughout each module rather than sitting a large set of examinations at the end of the academic year.
There may usually be two assessments within a module, potentially around Weeks 6 and 12, although this can vary depending on the module.
Assessment methods can change, and some modules may potentially include an examination. Any examination would be completed remotely, as students will not be required to travel to campus for assessment.
Are there end-of-year examinations or grades?
Students are assessed throughout each module, so there is not normally a large end-of-year examination period.
Progression is considered at the end of each stage rather than simply at the end of each calendar year. Students will need to achieve the required passing standard before progressing to the next level of study. The exact progression requirements should be confirmed with the programme team.
Can students access the programme while living outside the UK?
Yes. The Online Law LLB can be studied from outside the UK, and Aston Online has students based in different countries around the world.
Students will need a reliable internet connection and suitable technology to access the Digital Campus and complete their studies. Those using UK student finance should check directly with the relevant funding body, as residence requirements may apply.
What additional reading can applicants do before beginning the programme?
Once students begin the enrolment and onboarding process, the Student Success Team may be able to provide information about the first module and any useful preparatory reading.
All required materials will be made available through the Digital Campus and online library once the programme begins. Students who would like to explore a topic in greater depth can also ask their module tutor for additional reading recommendations. Any optional materials suggested would not be required to complete the programme.
How many students are usually in each cohort?
Cohort sizes vary depending on the intake. Some groups may include around 15 students, while others may include between 20 and 40 students. September intakes are often larger.
A larger cohort does not reduce access to academic support. Tutors remain available to answer questions and provide guidance throughout each module.
